Columbus Crosses the Atlantic

On October 12, 1492, Christopher Columbus's expedition made landfall in the Caribbean, opening a lasting sea route between Europe and the Americas. He was searching for a westward passage to Asia — and the lands he reached had been home to Native peoples for thousands of years.
