Lee Kuan Yew & Liu Thai Ker

Lee Kuan Yew, founding prime minister of Singapore, drove the political vision; Liu Thai Ker, the country's chief planner, authored the "new town" model of self-sufficient neighborhood hubs. They came up in an unplanned conversation about urban design during my Woodstock visit — decades of deliberate planning producing self-sufficient communities.
